Brazilian broadcaster SBT has commissioned a local version of classic gameshow Let’s Make a Deal, following an agreement with the show’s international distributor Can’t Stop Media.
SBT has commissioned an 8×60’ series to air weekly in primetime from October 11. The Brazilian version will be produced by local outfit Mixer and titled Topa um Acordo.
Can’t Stop Media has previously sealed deals for daily series on TVI in Portugal, GTV in Indonesia, TV2 in Hungary and Alpha in Greece, where it launched two days ago.
The deals continue the format’s new-found global popularity since Marcus/Glass Productions acquired the rights to the show in 2021 from Hatos-Hall Productions.
Marcus/Glass Productions is a joint venture between TV host and producer Marcus Lemonis, who is CEO of Marcus Entertainment, and producer Nancy Glass, who is CEO of Glass Entertainment Group. In December, London-based distributor Can’t Stop Media inked a deal to shop the format internationally.
In the US, the most recent iteration of Let’s Make a Deal has been on air since 2009 on CBS. It is now in its 13th season and has aired more than 2,000 episodes. The original format debuted back in 1963.
Can’t Stop co-founder Matthieu Porte said: “A title created by Hatos-Hall in the 60s, now owned by Marcus/Glass Productions, Let’s Make a Deal is one of the rare legacy formats which is not owned by super indies and therefore available to any production company in the world. We’re targeting more adaptations in Latin America, Asia and Europe and are also looking for partners in Africa.”
